Volunteers Needed

Join a rewarding volunteer program that uses your legal skills to make a profound difference in the lives of children and youth who may be unfairly excluded from school or placed in education programs that do not meet their needs.

The Child Advocacy Project is a joint initiative of The Advocates’ Society,
Pro Bono Law Ontario, and Justice for Children and Youth.

Recruitment and Training Session
Tuesday June 15, 2010 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

(Registration begins 8:30 a.m.)

Location: The Advocates' Society Education Centre

1700 - 480 University Ave

(just steps from the St. Patrick subway station)

To register for the training session,
or for more information on The Child Advocacy Project, contact:

Nicole Kellow, PBLO - Children’s Project Coordinator at nicole@pblo.org

In exchange for free training in education law, volunteers commit to accepting a minimum of one case within six months. The training will feature Martha Mackinnon from Justice for Children and Youth.   You will learn how to advocate on behalf of vulnerable children to safeguard their rights in special education, suspension/expulsion, school safety and enrollment.  You will also receive training materials and access to mentorship supports.

Program volunteers provide a wide range of legal services to students and their families. Services include summary advice, intervention with school administrators and board officials, conflict mediation and representing students at hearings or tribunals.

You can help children and youth build a secure future by giving them a stronger voice in an educational system that often does not hear them.
